Christian's Story

Many of you recognize Christian Kingsley, a lifelong resident of San Marcos, CA.  Christian is a healthy, 16 year old athlete who recently suffered a tragic accident.  Christian was on a weekend trip in the desert riding motorcycles with his family, experienced riders who always took every precaution.  Christian was on a leisurely ride when he went back to find a younger child who had fallen behind.  When he did not return, his family was horrified to find that he had crashed badly, and Christian told them that he felt as if his “body was disconnected.”  Christian was right; his spine was broken.

Christian is currently paralyzed from the waist down, and is undergoing intensive rehabilitative therapies.  With transfer expected to Children’s Hospital in San Diego for acute inpatient rehabilitation, Christian is faced with the insurmountable challenge of learning how to cope every day with his disabilities.  Christian is a fighter and has spirit and tenacity that most would admire!  And with tremendous courage, we are all moving forward.  We are hopeful that aggressive therapies can help him to regain as much function as possible.

As you can imagine, the costs to Christian and his family are staggering.  Medical insurance does not cover a significant portion of the costs associated with his hospitalization, rehabilitation therapies and ongoing costs associated with treatment.  Further, the family will need to pay for handicapped equipment and home modifications.  A wheelchair-accessible van will become a necessity in a very short period of time.

To help offset such expenses, Christian’s family and friends have come together to establish a fundraising campaign in his honor through the Catastrophic Injury Program of NTAF.  For 25 years, the non-profit NTAF has been working with the organ/tissue transplant community.  In recent years, they have expanded their mission to assist those who have sustained a catastrophic injury.  All contributions are administered by NTAF exclusively for injury-related expenses.  Donations are tax deductible.  Won’t you please help Christian?
